Variable List

These variables can be used in most XML and HTML pages to put dynamic content into your site. They are usually used by programmers and are not needed for a typical HTML-only Website

Variable Name	Short Description	Link to Full Java API
$browser	Refers to the Website visitor's Web browser	Browser
$content	Refers to the actual page that the browser requested, i.e., if a user requests /index.html then $content will be a reference to the /index.html page	Page
$context	This class is a collection of name value pairs to keep track of all the OpenEdit variables	WebPageRequest
$filepath	The file path is the directory location of the file you are rendering. So if a template wants to read in an image relative to the template's location it would use <img src="$filepath/logb.jpg">
$home	Normally this variable will be a blank string or "/mywebapp" if you are running in a webapp context
$page	The $page always refers to the itself. So a template can refer to itself by using the $page variable	Page
$pages	Used to include the content from other pages	PageStreamer
$request	Points to the open standard API for servlets	HttpServletRequest
$response	Points to the open standard API for servlets	HttpServletResponse
$session	Points to the open standard API for servlets	HttpSession
$syslog	A standard way to log debug messages	LogSystem
$urlpath	This path will be available anyplace you want to prefix with the directory that the browser is in. For example if the URL is http://acme.com/products/test.html then the $urlpath will be set to /products
$user	The user who is logged in and reading this page. It defaults to an anonymous user	User
$url_util	Collection of API used to manipulate URLs	URLUtilities
