from the OE Admin Toolbar.

- Choose a category from the tree.
- Select the Permissions tab.
- Refer to the later section on Editing Permissions.
Accessing Product Permissions

- Locate the product with the search tool and select it.
- You may also find a product by using the Categories tab, which can list the products in a specifc category.
- Select the Product Permissions tab.

Editing Permissions
- You should now be at a permissions screen for either a category or product.
- There are probably many permissions listed, but we're only interest in the view permission.
- All of these permissions are inherited from a higher level of the OpenEdit file structure. Inherited permissions apprear in italics.
- We want to redefine the view permission, so click on the override link in the actions column.
- A new permission local to your selected category or product will appear at the top of the list. Local permissions appear in bold
- Click the edit link under the actions column for our new view permission.
- The permission editor will appear. Refer to the Using the Permission Editor section.
Using the Permission Editor
- A permission consists of a combination of different conditions.
- These conditions may specify users, groups, properties, or even boolean combinations of other conditions.
- The editor will be populated with default conditions from the permission that we overrode.
- Click on the red x to start from scratch.
- The Add Condition selector will appear. Whatever you add will be the root level condition for this permission.
- If you wish to simply limit the category or product to a certain group, add a group permission, selected the desired group, and click on the save button.
- You may add a more complicated condition using boolean logic. For example, add an And condition, and then add a group with the add child link.
- Specify the group and then add another group with the add child link. Specify the group, and then the resulting restriction requires that the user be in both of the specified groups.
Excluding Categories Based on Group or User
- You can exclude a category for a particular user or group. That user will then no longer see the category in the Category Select list or the Category Browser.
- Set a permission on the category such as Not: Group="guest".
- The permission needs to be stored in archive/categories/[catalogid].xconf
- Select the Products tab.
- Locate the product with the search tool and select it.
- You may also find a product by using the Categories tab, which can list the products in a specifc category.
- Select the Product Permissions tab.
