OpenEdit eCommerce is very flexible and can be easily customized to meet your needs.
There are many ways to sell products online. For example, a very simplistic approach is a single HTML page with information about your product or service. You could write "Send me a note with your name, mailing address, and $5 and I will send you a signed photograph of yours truly." As long as you have visitors who want what you are offering enough to mail you $5, it will work. If this simple solution isn't enough, you need OpenEdit.
If you have multiple products, each with individual properties, images, prices, options, and so on, then you need an online catalog. We will install the eCommerce plugin so you can click the
Catalog Manager icon in the admin toolbar and start building your catalog of products. Within the catalog manager, you can:
Once you have built your online catalog, you need to display your products within your OpenEdit web site. This is done by adding a link to your OpenEdit Store within your site menu. Using the
Edit Links and Menus tool we'll show you how to add a link to your entire catalog, a specific category, or a single product. How much of your catalog you choose to display depends on whether you want to have all of your products available or only some of them. This is especially useful for seasonal products.
OpenEdit's default store layout provides a solid foundation for your catalog display. OpenEdit's online editing tools make the HTML and CSS that control the look and feel accessible and easy to change. Having a store that matches the look and feel of your site is important and can impact sales. This is why OpenEdit provides direct access to these customizable display files.
OpenEdit's online catalog manager is very poweful. It is often used without a payment system to organize and publish hundreds, if not thousands or products. To complete your sale online however you will need an online payment system.
While building your online catalog using the catalog manager (see above) you were given the option to add important pricing information for each product. If this was not completed, you should do this now. With the required pricing details added to your online catalog, OpenEdit's shopping cart is ready to be activated. Visitors to your site can browse your store, add items to their cart, and then proceed to the checkout when they are finished shopping. Payment options are up to you. OpenEdit is capable of working with PayPal, credit card merchant accounts, money orders, etc. Depending on the payment option selected, some setup is required. For example, if you wish to accept credit card information for processing directly on your site, you will need to setup a merchant account and SSL certificate. Again, customizing the text on each page, including the emails that get sent from to your customers from your online store are all accessible and easy to change using OpenEdit's easy online HTML editing.
Everyone here at OpenEdit is looking forward to working with you. We will install, setup and customize OpenEdit's eCommerce so you can sell your products and services online.
